Musk’s Political Spending Tops $445M in Historic Bid to Secure GOP Midterm Majority

Billionaire executive Elon Musk has cemented his position as the dominant financial force of the 2026 election cycle, investing upwards of $445 million into conservative super PACs and Republican campaign initiatives, according to newly updated Federal Election Commission (FEC) disclosures.
The surge in spending was highlighted by an additional $77 million transfer into America PAC during the first two weeks of October. Musk’s total contributions now surpass those of veteran political megadonors such as George Soros, Richard Uihlein, and Jeffrey Yass, representing one of the largest single-donor political operations on record.
FEC records detail that America PAC has committed more than $71 million directly to battleground congressional contests, centering heavily on five key states that will determine Senate control:
-
Texas: $33.1 million deployed to bolster Republican Ken Paxton against Democratic challenger James Talarico.
-
Ohio: $9.4 million invested behind Republican Jon Husted in his challenge against Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown.
-
Michigan: $8.6 million spent advocating for Republican Mike Rogers in his race against Democrat Abdul El-Sayed.
-
Midwestern & Northeast Battlegrounds: Multimillion-dollar ad buys and field efforts deployed across Iowa and Maine.
The filings also shed light on massive secondary transfers. In September, Musk directed $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, which shortly thereafter channeled matching sums to a Texas-based super PAC backing Paxton. That aligned state entity has spent over $181 million on the Texas contest alone since September 11.
Musk’s financial blitz has significantly reshaped the advertising landscape in the closing weeks of the campaign. While national generic-ballot surveys have consistently favored Democrats, the unprecedented capital injection has insulated Republican campaigns against fundraising deficits, saturating local airwaves and digital platforms across decisive toss-up races.
