Breaking: HARRISON FORD ESCALATES CLIMATE CRITICISM OF TRUMP AHEAD OF CONSERVATION HONOR

Actor Harrison Ford delivered an unsparing assessment of President Donald Trump’s environmental record during an interview with The Guardian, declaring that the administration’s rollback of environmental standards “scares the shit out of me” and characterizing the president’s posture on science as among the most destructive in history.

The remarks by the veteran Star Wars and Indiana Jones star came in Chicago shortly before he received a conservation leadership award from the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation at the Field Museum. Ford, who has worked in environmental conservation for decades and has served on the board of Conservation International since 1991, directed his criticism at the federal government’s pivot toward fossil fuel expansion and the dismantling of climate initiatives.

“He doesn’t have any policies, he has whims,” Ford told The Guardian. “It scares the shit out of me. The ignorance, the hubris, the lies, the perfidy. [Trump] knows better, but he’s an instrument of the status quo and he’s making money, hand over fist, while the world goes to hell in a handbasket”. Ford added: “It’s unbelievable. I don’t know of a greater criminal in history”.

The Context Behind the Clash

Ford’s pointed comments follow major federal policy shifts regarding domestic energy production and international environmental accords. The Trump administration has aggressively moved to expand oil and natural gas leasing on public lands, paused federal funding for select clean energy programs, initiated an exit from the Paris Climate Agreement, and publicly dismissed international climate consensus at forums such as the United Nations.

Ford rejected suggestions that climate activism is an abstract, future-oriented concern, noting that extreme weather disruptions have validated scientific warnings issued over the past three decades.

“I knew it was coming; I have been preaching this stuff for 30 years,” Ford said during the interview. “Everything we’ve said about climate change has come true. Why is that not sufficient that it alarms people that they change behaviors? Because of the entrenched status quo”.

Ford also drew attention to global biodiversity and Indigenous land rights, underscoring that many of the planet’s remaining intact tropical forests and critical carbon sinks are preserved by Indigenous communities—groups that frequently face encroaching industrial development without adequate legal protections.

Celebrity Megaphones vs. Political Polarization

The intensity of Ford’s language quickly ignited discussion across media and political circles regarding the line between high-profile civic advocacy and inflammatory rhetoric:

  • Critics’ Perspective: Detractors argue that labeling an elected president “the greatest criminal in history” over executive policy differences diminishes legal precision and inflames political polarization. Critics contend that celebrity figures who use hyperbolic, partisan attacks alienate large segments of the public from conservation causes, turning issues like biodiversity into polarizing culture-war debates.

  • Supporters’ Perspective: Backers maintain that Ford’s status as a veteran conservationist—with over 30 years of field engagement and institutional leadership—gives him legitimate authority to speak forcefully. Supporters argue that measured language has failed to halt habitat destruction or rising global temperatures, justifying blunt, urgent rhetoric when global ecological stability is at stake.

The interview represents an extension of Ford’s willingness to address federal politics directly. During the 2024 campaign cycle, Ford publicly endorsed Kamala Harris and warned voters against executive governance driven by retribution, reinforcing his role as one of Hollywood’s most outspoken political voices.
