BREAKING: GOP Midterm Convention Opens in Dallas With Empty Upper Sections

The Republican Party’s first-ever national midterm convention opened Wednesday at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, with President Donald Trump scheduled to headline the two-day gathering.

The event was designed as a major campaign showcase ahead of the November midterm elections. Republican organizers have said they expect more than 20,000 people to attend, while the convention is intended to rally voters, promote the party’s candidates and highlight the Trump administration’s agenda.

However, early images from inside the arena showed noticeable gaps in seating, particularly in the upper sections. Reuters reported that attendance was a concern surrounding the event, while the Daily Beast described the opening as featuring large areas of empty seating.

The floor and lower sections appeared more heavily occupied as the program got underway, and attendance could change throughout the two-day event. The American Airlines Center has a capacity of roughly 20,000 for this type of gathering, making the visual presentation of the crowd particularly noticeable.

Trump is scheduled to appear both Wednesday and Thursday, with Vice President JD Vance also among the featured speakers. The convention marks an unusual effort by Republicans to organize a national party gathering outside the traditional presidential-election cycle.

Whether the early attendance reflects the overall turnout remains to be seen, but the sparse upper sections quickly became one of the most visible aspects of the convention’s opening.
