Earlier today, an Amazon Prime Air cargo plane overran the runway while landing at Miami International Airport. The aircraft then struck several vehicles and caught fire.

Officials say at least five people were killed and five others were injured, including three who remain in critical condition. Investigators are now working to determine exactly what went wrong and what caused the devastating crash.
The crash also comes as the FAA continues to face longstanding staffing challenges. During the Trump administration, the agency underwent workforce changes while Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy pushed new efforts to recruit and train air traffic controllers. The FAA has acknowledged an ongoing staffing shortage, and a 2026 federal audit found that shortages remain at some contract air traffic control towers.
However, there is currently no evidence establishing that FAA staffing levels or recent workforce changes played a role in the Miami crash. Investigators will need to determine the cause before any connection can be made.
