Female Lindsay Clancy Juror Gave Telling Courtroom Response To ‘Mistrial’

Several jurors appeared visibly emotional Friday after the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy ended in a mistrial, bringing weeks of testimony and seven days of deliberations to an abrupt close without a verdict.

The 12-member jury was tasked with determining whether Clancy was criminally responsible for the January 2023 killings of her three young children at the family’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts. After roughly 38 hours of deliberations, jurors told Superior Court Judge William Sullivan multiple times that they remained deadlocked. The judge ultimately declared a mistrial after the panel could not reach the unanimous decision required under Massachusetts law.

CNN correspondent Jean Casarez reported that a colleague inside the courtroom observed an emotional reaction from at least one juror when Judge Sullivan thanked the panel and told them he was proud of their work.

The jury consisted of nine women and three men. According to defense attorney Kevin Reddington, the panel was divided 11-1, with 11 jurors prepared to find Clancy not criminally responsible and one male juror remaining opposed. The reported split was never formally announced through a jury poll.

The case now remains unresolved, with prosecutors expected to consider whether to seek a retrial. A hearing is scheduled for September 29 to address the next steps.
