🇺🇸 A MOMENT THAT CAUGHT EVERYONE’S ATTENTION AT GROUND ZERO

Days after former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani publicly urged Mayor Zohran Mamdani to stay away from the 25th anniversary 9/11 ceremony, the two men found themselves together at Ground Zero.

And then came an unexpected moment: Mamdani approached Giuliani, and the two exchanged a brief handshake and a few words.

Giuliani had previously said that Mamdani should not attend the ceremony and that his presence would offend him. Mamdani, however, confirmed that he would attend, saying his focus was on honoring the victims, their families, and the first responders who served the city on September 11, 2001.

On Friday, September 11, Mamdani did attend the 25th anniversary commemoration alongside Giuliani and other political leaders. Their brief interaction was notably civil despite the criticism that had preceded the ceremony.

For a ceremony centered on remembering nearly 3,000 people killed in the attacks, the handshake offered a striking visual contrast to the political dispute that had unfolded beforehand.

Mamdani had said that the anniversary should focus on the people who were lost, their loved ones, and the first responders.

Whatever people may think about the politics surrounding his attendance, one thing was clear at Ground Zero: the two men stood together at the same memorial and, at least for that brief moment, put their differences aside.

Twenty-five years after 9/11, the day remains a solemn reminder of the lives lost and the families forever changed.

🕯️ Remember the victims.
🇺🇸 Honor the first responders.
🤝 And remember that even during deep political disagreements, moments of civility are still possible.
